How To Fix Earphones When Only One Side Is Working

In this growing technology era of smartphones and accessories, especially earphones. All of us have become habitual of using earphones while attending calls and meetings or enjoying workouts and listening to our favorite songs. And many of us still prefer wired earphones with mic because of the reliability and the current ongoing trend of using wired earphones. However, sometimes it gets annoying and frustrating when only one side of the earphones is working, which can definitely ruin workouts and music listening experience.

But such an issue, which may seem troublesome, can easily be solved with a few simple methods without worrying about spending to buy new earphones.

  1. Ensure earphones are plugged in properly.

If the earphones are not plugged into the jack properly, then one side of the earphones receives the audio only due to a loose connection. Try to reinsert the earphones into the jack and ensure that the earphones are plugged in properly.

  1. Check if the audio jack is clean or not.

Accumulation of dust and lint particles inside the headphone jack is very common if you keep your mobile phones inside your pocket or laptop in bags. That accumulation makes it difficult for the earphones to connect properly and results in partial working of the earphones. So, always clean the headphone jack with a cotton swab, toothpick, or with the help of compressed air to connect the earphones properly.

  1. Check if the cable is damaged.

Carefully check the earphone cable for any visible damage and cuts. And if there's no visible damage and the earphones are still not working properly, then the internal wiring must be damaged.

  1. Check the audio balance settings.

Before making an assumption that the earphones are damaged, make sure the audio balance setting is set to balanced, because sometimes the audio balance settings get mistakenly shifted to either side, which makes only one side of the earphone work.

  1. Try plugging in another device

Sometimes earphones are fine, but don't work properly because of a faulty audio source. To ensure earphones are working fine, plug them into a different audio source or device, and if they work properly in different devices, then it means the earphones are fine.

Final thought

In case only one side of your earphones is working, it doesn't necessarily mean they are completely broken, and sometimes following some simple methods to fix your wired earphones with mic can save you money as well.
